Sackville Heights Junior High

October 30th, 2023

We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship”.

We also acknowledge that people of African ancestry have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

Our Sacred Teaching for today is Respect:
In all life, respect is the first and foremost. Respect oneself and respect will be bestowed.

Today is Week 1. Monday October 30th

For the information of students and staff, Ms. Treena is not in today.

Today we will continue the Monday Morning mindfulness group. This is an opportunity to learn some mindfulness practices to help ease into the week. If you’re interested, please speak with your teacher and then join us in the library immediately following these morning announcements.

Drama Club will be starting on Monday, November 6th from 2:45pm until 4pm in the cafeteria. This club will help cast our show for the Spring which will be an evening of dessert and theatre. Students are asked to sign-up outside of the Learning Centre. Any questions can be directed to Ms. Legge .

GSA is tomorrow during first and second lunch. All 2SLGBTQIA+ students and their allies are invited to attend. There will be Halloween treats.

Grade 8 leadership students are reminded of the schedule this week to go count how many students are participating in our theme week.  The tally sheet is in Mrs Mercer’s room.  You need to count how many students are dressed up and how many are in the class in total so we can calculate the percentage of students participating.

Don’t forget that tomorrow’s theme day is Costume day.  Come to school with a costume on but don’t forget that face paint is okay but masks cannot be worn.

Our themes for the rest of the week are:
Wednesday: Anything but a back pack day
Thursday: Music Genre - wear your favourite rock concert t-shirt, dress as your favourite musician, dress in a music decade…the opinions are endless.
Friday -Freaky Friday - staff are coming to school dressed as students and students are encouraged to come to school dressed up as a teacher.

Anime club is taking place today on second lunch in the family studies room.

Girls Volleyball- We would like to congratulate the SHJH girls volleyball team for their 4th place win during their tournament this weekend. They were 4th out of 10 teams. The girls played very well! Good luck on today's game after school!

Happy Birthday to marjorie in 8-1 from all of your friends
