We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship”.

We also acknowledge that people of African ancestry have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

Today is Friday, September 29th.

Thank you to all who are participating in our school's Orange Shirt Day. SHJH is honoring and remembering the survivors and victims of Residential schools today. While September 30th is a holiday for us here in Nova Scotia, we are only one of 3 provinces who have declared this day a holiday. We hope you will use your day off on Monday, October 2nd to take time and remember the survivors and victims of Residential Schools.
Art club is today during first and second lunch in the library. All students are welcome to attend.

Girl’s and girl identifying volleyball season is starting this coming Tuesday! Sign-up for tryouts are online and the link is on the school athletics page. There will be 3 tryouts before the team is picked. Because of the overwhelming response the tryouts will be broken up into groups. Please listen carefully for when yours will be. Grade eights will try-out on this coming Tuesday, Oct 3rd. Grade sixes and sevens will try-out on that Thursday, Oct 5th and there will be a final try-out on Tuesday, Oct 10th from a shortened list that will be posted outside the gym. The try-outs and team practices will always be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the time will always be 3:00-4:30.

SHJH Students should NOT be interrupting classroom learning to ask for sports equipment from other homerooms. Homeroom teachers should have equipment for you to use. Knocking on the door during instruction time is extremely distracting.

We want to remind students of the location of our gender neutral bathroom. It was explained on orientation days but in case anyone does not know … it is just inside the Learning Centre, The Learning Centre is downstairs just before you enter the grade 6 hall.

Unfortunately, “Ms. B” is not in again today.
