Sackville Heights Junior High

January 17th, 2024

We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship”.

We also acknowledge that people of African ancestry have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

Our Sacred Teaching for today is Humility:
In life we need to understand humility. Humility is the factor, which allows us to ask humbly for guidance.

This is Week 1 Today is Wednesday, January 17th.

The first dance practice for the dance club will be this Thursday, January 18th from 2:50 pm-4:00 pm in the cafeteria. Please make sure to bring clothes and shoes that you can move around in. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or just starting out, Dance Club is the place to be!

Ms. Fisher and Mr. DeMone will be stationed in the front lobby from 8:30am - 8:45am each day this week to collect ski trip forms.  Be sure you have all the necessary forms and they are filled out properly.  Please do not drop them off during class time as they will not be accepted.  For those who didn't receive forms, we will let you know when more will be available.

Thanks to everyone who auditioned for our Dessert Theatre. We will be posting some small group call backs so we can see how people sing together. Not everyone will need to come but everyone who auditioned will be in the show. The list will be posted by end of day Thursday. If your name is not on the list, it means we already know where we will place you. Call backs will be on Monday, January 22 from 2:45-4 in the cafeteria.

Reminder that we have a leadership meeting today on second lunch in the family studies room.

On behalf of the headstrong committee here at our school we would like to introduce ourselves. Myself, Cassidy, Sophie, Rylan, Caitlyn, Aun, Caleb K, Ms. Parsons and more are all involved in the headstrong group. We are working on better educating people here at school on mental health and stopping the stigma against it. A couple things to look forward to this year coming from head strong is trivia, games, presentations, etc. We are also all people you can talk to about mental health.
We all care greatly about it and want to help in any way possible. Also remember there are many ways to help yourself when you are having a mental health problem. The 5 sense method is a commonly used one. Say out loud 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can taste and 1 thing you can smell. That method can help a lot to distract yourself. Of course there is also the kids help phone to call. Remember mental health is just as important as physical health, and it is also important to help yourself in any way possible.

Congratulations to the boys basketball team on their win yesterday. The Falcons were led in scoring by Caleb Leblanc, Laiden Cornell and Liam MacPherson.
In their debut as scorekeepers and timekeepers, Muhammad Nurmawala and Roman Elson did an outstanding job.
Boys practice Thursday and Friday afterschool.

Any student interested in keeping score after school today at the girls exhibition basketball game please see Ms. MacNeil

Have a Wonderful Wednesday SHJH!
