Sackville Heights Junior High

February 9th, 2023

Please stand for the playing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” this piece is known as the black national anthem and will be played the entire month of February

We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship”.

We also acknowledge that people of African ancestry have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

Our Sacred Teaching for today is Wisdom
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom”.

This is WEEK 2
Today is Wednesday, February 9th, 2023

Black History Month
Each day this February we will be highlighting members of the Black community who have made significant contributions to society and helped pave the way forward.

Today we look at this person-

This person was not the first to resist bus segregation, but the NAACP believed that she was the best candidate for seeing through a court challenge after her arrest for civil disobedience in violating Alabama segregation laws, and she helped inspire the Black community to boycott the Montgomery buses for over a year.

Rosa Parks

Would all the leadership students please meet in room 102 (Ms. Slades room) during second lunch.

For the information of staff and students, Mr. Cole is absent today. His room will be closed to students.

The vandalism that is occurring in the school bathrooms is not acceptable. Vandalism falls under unacceptable behaviors in our school code of conduct, and those who are participating in this act, will have consequences.  Please report any damage to the main office.

Attention all Pop choir students there will be a rehearsal today from 3 to 4 pm in the music room.

Tomorrow's theme is school colors come dressed in red and white.
